For my internship I worked for my Dad at Edit One Studios. Edit one is owned and maintained by him. In general the kind of work that he does there is video editing, such as making commercials and videos for independent companies. Also it maintains a Health based Television show. The choice to work there was easy for me because his line of work interests me. Some skills I had to use there was thinking on my feet as well as understanding how to use the equipment. I had never used the equipment before so this was sort of a struggle for me. My daily tasks were to make video copies of the same DVD and assemble them into boxes. I had to make 500 copies of 4 different DVDs. This entailed putting the DVDs into the video copier, then putting the DVDs into boxes, then putting labels which I print out and hand cut onto the boxes. Some other tasks that I was assigned to was cleaning up around the studio. This I would say was the least fun part of the experience because I don’t like cleaning things and I especially don’t like physical labor for the most part. The last job that I was assigned to do because I still had a little time left was he showed me how to edit a video and for the sake of me learning he showed me how to make the video better. This was pretty tough because it is supposed to take weeks of practice just to be able to use the program and i was surprised that I was able to pick it up so quickly. This was time consuming but was also pretty fun. In general what I learned from this experience was to think on my feet because I had to figure out how to do a lot of it on my own. Also I learned how to make DVD copies and got an inside look on what the video business looks like. One of my favorite experiences from this job was being able to look at all the work I had done and see what I had accomplished. Also I liked that he bought me free lunch. An obstacle was overcoming the barrier of not understanding how to use the equipment that I needed. At first I thought that this would be a very difficult job for me because in general what my Dad does confuses me with all the gadgets and equipment he uses. My opinion of this changed when I actually got to work there because it turns out that it is a lot more understandable then I thought and it just was a matter of taking the time to figure it out. Overall this was a great experience for me and I think that I could see my self working on video production if my other plans in college fall through which is food science.
